Artifact: Learning From Holocaust Survivors
Artifact: Learning From Holocaust Survivors
This is a project I created for LIS490MUL, Museum Informatics using Wordpress.com. I wanted to create this website as a forum in honor of WWII holocaust survivors around the globe because pretty soon there won’t be any of them left to speak for themselves. Herein, you can find photos, videos, written accounts and audio clips of survivors sharing their stories. And, just as importantly, there is a section where you can learn more about modern-day genocide and how you can help put an end to it by linking to external informational resources.
Reflection
What I learned from this experience is how to create a user-friendly telecommunications tool that includes various forms of multimedia (audio, photography, video) and hypermedia. I was especially happy with the simplicity of the banner, both the image (I took the photograph) and the hypertext linking to sub-pages. In the future, when this becomes more than just a prototype, I will expound a lot of the sub-pages so the viewer has a more concrete idea about what they can do, read, listen to and watch on each page. I will also include an additional sub-page for survivors to submit their own stories, which was one of the key ideas behind this project.
Websites like this can support instruction because they provide an all-in-one resource to show students, as well as instant access to relevant external sources.
