This is a link to the Twitter feed I created for Hinsdale South High School's library during my student teaching placement.
Reflection
I was really excited to set up a Twitter account for Hinsdale South's library because I already had experience using a personal Twitter account, and I know the benefits of communicating and collaborating using this social networking tool. It worked really well because I set it up in time for Teen Read Week so that I could post special clues about contests we were having in the library. This technology helped me reach over a thousand students with a click of a button. In addition, I followed Young Adult authors so that students could easily access their Twitter feeds and essentially connect with some of their favorite writers.
It's hard to say whether the Twitter feed led more students than usual to participate in Teen Read Week activities. I think it would be more accurate to measure next year after the feed has been integrated into the school norm for a full year. However, I still believe that utilizing social media outlets, such as Twitter, is beneficial because these are the tools students use most often to communicate with their peers and the rest of the world.
