Reflection
This is a fictional facilitating change project I developed, although it's based off my life-changing experience being involved with Writers Week at Fremd High School. I used Palatine High School, which is a real school, since it resides in the same district as Fremd. What I learned from this project is how much effort goes into writing and developing all the various components of such a huge proposal.
I hope to start an annual event like Writers Week at the school in which I end up teaching. It is an excellent opportunity, as the librarian, to collaborate with the English department and any other staff members interested in recognizing student writers. This would also be a great opportunity to connect and collaborate with the community outside the school, both for fundraising purposes, as well as inviting professional writers to read their work, meet with students, and speak about writing as a career.
Internal collaborating efforts could include:
* Working with the English department to promote event and garner student interest
* Sending out an all-school memo to recruit any staff members who may be interested in being a featured presenter
External collaborating efforts could include:
* Area restaurants could offer special Writers Week support days where a portion of the day's proceeds goes towards the event.
* If there is a well-known author, who we might not be able to afford, we could work together with the local public library to subsidize fundraising if the cost is too high for the school to afford on its own.
* Reaching out to PTA for fundraising efforts
