Welcome to my COTE Common Assessment Portfolio!
I began my adventures in library school back in 2009, when I got accepted to the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois, intending to pursue a career in photo archiving. A year later I took a Youth Services Librarianship class, and the rest is history.
The prospect of working with youth and getting kids excited about books and reading seemed like the best job in the world. Knowing I had my work cut out for me, in that if I got accepted I'd pretty much be starting grad school from scratch, I made the decision to completely switch gears and apply to the K-12 School Librarianship program.
All the extra time, effort, and in-the-field experiences were well worth it in the end. This career is such a perfect match for me that I honestly can't believe I didn't think of pursuing it sooner!
This portfolio is a requirement for students completing the K-12 certification. Please enjoy the artifacts I've chosen to highlight in alignment with the Illinois state and content standards!
Sincerely,
